A compulsory preventive necessity.

Custom Moulded Hearing Protection

Commonwealth OH & S regulations imposes that hearing protection must be provided where noise of 85dB(A) or more are exceeded.

There are several types of hearing protection, varying from disposable earplugs and earmuffs to personal hearing protectors, and otoplastics.

When our ears are regularly exposed to excessive noise, there is a real chance of damage to the hearing.

Hearing protection is therefore a preventive necessity, because deafness due to excessive noise is permanent.

In addition, this burden of noise has a detrimental effect on work cover insurance premiums & sick leave payments.

IT DOESN’T TAKE LONG FOR 85dB(A) TO BE EXCEEDED

Sooner than one realises, our hearing is exposed to dangerous levels of noise, as can be seen in the table below:

Level Of Noise dB(A)

Exposure Time

85 8 hours
88 4 hours
91 2 Hours
94 1 Hour
97 30 Minutes
100 15 Minutes
103 7 Minutes
106 3 Minutes
109 2 Minutes

Being exposed to a noisy environment for to long can lead to damage to our hearing, workers fatigue, and irritability.

Some examples:

Sources of noise mentioned below produce an excessive sound, which may lead to deafness caused by noise when a person is not sufficiently protected:

Circular saw 110 dB(A)
Electricity Generating set 85 dB(A)
Welding machine 95 dB(A)
Forging steel 117 dB(A)
High pressure cleaning 110 dB(A)
Grinding 113 dB(A)
Highway traffic 95 dB(A)

(These values may vary somewhat between equipment brands and specific situations)
